 nt in preparing our officers and first responders to effectively respond t
 o high-risk situations and ensure public safety. These exercises play a vi
 tal role by helping simulate real-world conditions\, allowing our UPD team
  to train in a realistic and dynamic environment.\n\nYou may observe or he
 ar officers in protective gear carrying emergency equipment or exposed fir
 earms. You may see volunteers lying on the ground in the role of injured i
 ndividuals. You may hear loud noises\, including gunshots\, banging and ye
 lling. Again\, these are scenario exercises and not real events.\n\nUPD fo
 llows the nationally recognized A.L.E.R.R.T. program\, which was created i
 n 2002 as a partnership between Texas State University\, the Hays County S
 heriff’s Office and the San Marcos Police Department\, and has since bee
 n adopted by the Texas Governor – Criminal Justice Division\, U.S. Depar
 tment of Justice and the FBI. UPD has been successfully trained in A.L.E.R
